Our Approach
Our organization uses both literature and multi sensory experiences to expose children to the diverse world around them, and to allow them to explore and celebrate their own unique story.
Through our two programs, Stories of Belonging and Voices of Belonging, we are able to reach children in multiple ways, to meet them where they are, and to allow them to apply the information in creative ways to their own life. Our curated library of diverse literature, which we call Stories of Belonging, brings opportunity for learning and exposure to others, while also providing validation of each child’s place in society. The Voices of Belonging workshops bring opportunity for a deeper dive into what “different” looks and feels like, and allow children to be truly celebrated for their unique stories. Together, they invite children to learn by listening to stories, whether written or created through art, and to honor each other for exactly who they are. This approach results in connection, understanding, and empathy.
Our belief is that ALL belong, and that includes opportunities to read our books and experience our workshops. Therefore, we work with other organizations who serve marginalized communities to ensure that anyone who desires access to our work, has it. Generation WE provides school age children with literature that represents our many differences. By providing children with stories to explore diversity, we create awareness and plant the seed of understanding and empathy.
We work with artists and authors to create multi sensory experiences that allow children to explore diverse stories in a tangible way. Our workshops are created so that children have an opportunity to not only learn about differences, but to express their own unique voice and story through art, storytelling and creation.
