Generation WE Workshops

Celebrating YOU and ME and all that makes us

PERFECTLY UNIQUE!

Workshops for Ages 8-15

Generation WE provides thoughtfully designed workshops that bring children together from varying backgrounds, abilities and interests through art, sports and other creative mediums to explore our uniqueness and to learn about the power of storytelling. By creating an environment where kids are empowered to share their personal stories and are open to listening to others, we provide opportunity for connection and empathy.

WE believe in the power of literature and the importance of representation, so every single child that attends our workshops is given time during the workshop to select a book of their choice from our robust collection.

UNIQUE SNEAKS

  • Celebrating you and me and all that makes us perfectly unique.

In this workshop your students will work with local artists to customize sneakers that reflect their own unique stories.

Each student will have the opportunity to chose a book from our diverse collection to take home.

Using literature and art, we encourage children to learn about others while feeling empowered to celebrate their own gifts and stories.

    • Generation WE provides all materials including shoes in requested size for each student, art supplies, table and floor coverings (if requested), books for each student, a team of volunteers, and a featured artist.

    • The workshop begins with a discussion about the importance and power of storytelling. Stories can be shared through spoken word, art, music, written word and more. They are the foundation of connection, and we encourage students to share their story through wearable art.

    • Students are then led by our artist in painting their own sneakers, and our team interacts with the students for the duration of the workshop. We love when you all join the fun in helping students, but you are not required to.

    • At the close of the workshop, the students are asked to chose a book from our collection to take home. We hope that each and every one of them sees themselves reflected in our collection, or that they find a book that inspires them to learn about others. Effective reading engagement is directly correlated to the diversity and representation of the text, and our goal is to increase engagement and therefore, literacy.
